There are many different avenues that we as Nurses can explore to keep ourselves current and competent in an ever changing health care system. Joining a professional nursing organization such as WDPONA is one way. Perioperative Nurses have the largest specialty organized membership in North America! There are 3500 Perioperative Nurses in Canada alone who belong to a local chapter in their area. That says a lot for our profession.
It says that we believe in our careers and our patients…that we care about the work that we do everyday, 24 hours a day 7 days a week. It shows the commitment that Perioperative Nurses have to our profession and especially to the safety and well being of our patients.
Being a part of this organization allows us to collaborate among our peers and learn from each other and see that we are not alone in the issues that we deal with everyday. Education opportunities are available for those who are apart of WDPONA and who want to continue their education formerly or for those who want to broaden their horizons at a conference or take a specific course related to our field.
Technology has also opened a whole new world to us. Every operating room has computers at their disposal, whether they are in each O.R. or nearby at the desk or in the library and in our own homes. This technology has opened us up to a mass amount of education for both Nurses and patients. We all know that most patients know what a surgical safety check list is now and expect to see it used.
Become a part of the ever changing pace and technology of Nursing and have a say in your profession and practice. Welcome to WDPONA! A group of dedicated, professional perioperative Nurses who believe in what they do every day and want to share that experience and expertise amongst our peers.
Warm Regards,
